THE wait for a first Adran Premier point of the season goes on for Wrexham, but they have managed to break their duck in front of goal.

Following losses to Cardiff City and Briton Ferry Llansawel, where they failed to score a goal, the Reds suffered a 3-2 loss to Swansea City in their big showdown at The SToK Racecourse.

Ava Suckley and substitute Rosie Hughes grabbed the goals for the hosts, in front of a crowd of 1,337, who braved the miserable conditions.

Reflecting on the game, Wrexham boss Steve Dale told S4C’s Sgorio: “A bit manic at times, I think.

“Obviously, we didn’t really get a full control on the game. We knew that Swansea would come here and try and dominate possession and, you know, they did.

“But the way that we set up first half sort of frustrated them. They kept the ball at the back a little bit, but I think we just waited a little bit too long to sort of try and get after them.

“I think the last 10 minutes of that second half, we put them under the cosh a bit.

“Alright, we didn’t create too many clear-cut chances, which has been the story for our season so far.”

Swansea deservedly went in front in the 11th minute. Robyn Pinder played a lovely cross in from the right and Stacy John-Davis headed in, leaving Reds’ keeper Lizzie Craven with no chance.

Then, almost out of the Blue, Wrexham hauled themselves level 11 minutes from the break.

From an error by Swans’ defender Nia Jones, Abbie Iddenden took the ball and set up Ava Suckley, who brilliantly side-footed into the net from the edge of the box.

Swansea made the most of two second half set-pieces to pull themselves clear once more.

Jess Williams’ header from a corner nudged Swansea back into the lead and it was 3-1 with 12 minutes to go via Katie Sharp’s own goal from a free kick.

The Reds introduced striker Rosie Hughes off the bench in the closing stages and she pulled one back in the 90th minute with a header from a corner.

Hughes appeared in once more just minutes later, but Jess Williams’ last-ditch tackle halted a certain goal, while Iddenden’s effort was off target with the final kick of the game.

“It’s a relief to finally score a goal in the league, yeah, definitely,” added Dale.

“But, we’ve got to stop conceding soft goals, really. You know, two set pieces we’ve given away poorly, normally where we’re better at defending set pieces.

“Haven’t defended them well enough and we get punished for that. But, listen, we’re not going to panic.

“We’ve got a lot of quality in this team and we’ll go away and we’ll keep working and then, hopefully, next weekend we can start putting some points on the board.”
