WHAT is it about Adran Premier meetings between Wrexham and Swansea City at the SToK Cae Ras?

Last season, it was the Swans who came out on top 3-2 and it was the same scoreline this time around, but the Reds were so close to salvaging something.

In front of a crowd of 1,337 at The Racecourse, Wrexham made a bright start and just two minutes in, Carra Jones was played clean through, but thigs were halted for a tight offside.

After this, Swansea took control and they enjoyed the bulk of the possession.

Skipper Keren Allen had to be strong with a good block when the visitors threatened, while Reds' keeper Lizzie Craven headed clear when under pressure from Stacy John-Davis.

Swansea deservedly went in front in the 11th minute.

Robyn Pinder played a lovely cross in from the right and John-Davis headed in, leaving Craven with no chance.

With Swansea still on top, Pinder nearly had a second for City, but her effort from 10 yards forced a good save from Craven.

Abbie Iddenden, for the first time, was sent in the clear on the right for Wrexham, but her cross-shot was safely gathered.

Ava Suckley was haring into the box, but she wasn't spotted.

There was further danger for the Reds from Keren Allen's short backpass to Craven, but the keeper got there before John-Davis to clear.

Then, almost out of the Blue, Wrexham hauled themselves level 11 minutes from the break.

From an error by Nia Jones, Iddenden took the ball and set up Ava Suckley, who brilliantly side-footed into the net from the edge of the box.

A strong end to the half saw Wrexham hunting a second.

Iddenden's dangerous cross was cleared by Emily Thomas, while Suckley laid the ball off for Iddenden, whose strike was deflected wide.

With the half coming to an end, Lili Jones tried her luck from 30 yards but it was straight at the keeper.

There were no changes at the interval and Jones had an excellent chance at the start of the second half, but she couldn't convert.

Wrexham's failure to deal with two set pieces played its part in the defeat.

Jess Williams' header from a corner nudged Swansea back into the lead and it was 3-1 with 12 minutes to go via Katie Sharp's own goal from a free kick.

The Reds introduced striker Rosie Hughes off the bench in the closing stages and she pulled one back in the 90th minute with a header from a corner.

Hughes appeared in once more just minutes later, but Jess Williams' last-ditch tackle halted a certain goal, while Iddenden's effort was off target with the final kick of the game.
