LEADERS Penybont returned to winning ways with a 1-0 success at Flint Town United.

The Silkmen were well in the contest for the opening 45 minutes, but Rhys Griffiths’ high-flyers had much the better of the second half as they recorded their seventh triumph of the season.

Flint boss Lee Fowler told S4C’s Sgorio: “I felt first half we had them where we needed them to be.

“They’re top of the league and you couldn’t tell the difference between the two teams in the first half, especially without Venners (Chris Venables) and (Keyon) Refell in their team.

“I thought it was a good opportunity that we could have got something out of the game, especially after the back of their result against Briton Ferry.

“But they ground us down, they found a way and it’s just disappointing.”

Flint’s best chance came 10 minutes before the break.

Florian Yonsian flicked the ball into the path of Josh Jones and his chip went just wide of the target.

Penybont eventually made their breakthrough with 20 minutes remaining. Gabriel Kircough supplied the assist for Owen Pritchard’s strike.

In the last minute, Kane Owen saw his penalty saved by home keeper Jack Flint.

Five Flint players picked up yellow cards over the course of the afternoon and those booked were Ben Hughes, Isaac Lee, Sidi Sanogo Fofana, Izaack Lambert and Harry Owen.

The New Saints recovered from back-to-back league defeats by claiming a thumping 6-1 triumph from their trip to Newtown.

Danny Davies and Sion Bradley were on target to give Craig Harrison’s defending champions a 2-0 advantage at the interval.

Aramide Jay Oteh’s effort made the game safe for the Saints, while further strikes came from the direction of Bradley, Declan McManus and Jack Bodenham. Shane Sutton grabbed Newtown’s response a quarter-of-an-hour from time.

Next up for The New Saints is Thursday’s UEFA Conference League trip to Fiorentina.

Bala Town had to settle for a point from their 2-2 draw away to Briton Ferry Llansawel.

Ross White and Alex Gammond’s own goal confirmed the Lakesiders’ goals, however Gammond’s penalty and Jasper Payne made sure of a point for the hosts.

The remaining two matches finished up 1-0.

Ollie Hulbert’s late effort saw Barry get the better of Aberystwyth, while Haverfordwest defeated Cardiff Met courtesy of Owain Jones’ second half goal.
