WREXHAM played out a goalless draw with Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road and are now second in League One.

Despite starting the day sitting 18th in the table, Orient made all the running in the first half and had chances to take the lead.

Phil Parkinson's men rode their luck as Orient failed to capitalise but the Reds stepped up a gear in the second period, although they had to settle for a point.

It means Wrexham relinquished top spot with Birmingham City taking over as leaders after coming from behind to beat Peterborough United 3-2 with the Reds only two points off the summit.

Parkinson made one change from the side that started the 2-1 win at home to Crawley Town the previous weekend.

Leading scorer Jack Marriott, who was named on the substitutes bench against Town when Paul Mullin made his first league start of the campaign, was back in the Wrexham attack alongside Ollie Palmer.

Wrexham were given a huge let-off after just two minutes following a defensive lapse which Orient seized upon but Charlie Kelman fired wide from Ethan Galbraith's pass with only Arthur Okonkwo to beat.

Sean Clare also fired over as Orient continued their lively start, and the home side should have gone ahead after winning a corner.

The flag-kick was flicked into the danger-zone by Clare and Brandon Cooper brought a fantastic point blank save out of Okonkwo before Galbraith fired over.

It was all Orient and Tom James' free-kick fell wide but Wrexham began to find their feet and Elliot Lee spread the ball to Ryan Barnett whose low cross from the right flashed across goal.

Tom O'Connor's in-swinging corner struck the post as goalkeeper Zach Hemmings attempted to collect and it remained goalless at the break.

Wrexham had been better towards the end of the opening period but they needed to improve further in the second half and the Reds had a chance to go ahead in the 52nd minute.

Lee forced a mistake and fed Marriott whose low drive in the area was saved by Hemming.

Kelman shot wide for Orient but Wrexham were getting into good positions and James McClean picked out substitute Mullin in the area but a brilliant challenge by Jack Currie denied the Reds' striker a shot at goal and the opportunity went begging.

Wrexham also went close when Barnett cross caused mayhem, there was a spot of pinball in the six-yard box with Steven Fletcher, on for Ollie Palmer, attempting to bundle the ball home but somehow it stayed out and Orient survived.

Neither side could find a winner and it finished in a stalemate.
