IT’S the toughest of tests for Wrexham tomorrow - but at least they will face it on the back of a much-needed triumph.
The Bryn Estyn Road side, who opened the Division One North campaign with back-to-back defeats, managed to break their duck with a thrilling 37-32 success over Denbigh.
Next up for Wrexham is tomorrow’s trip to tackle defending champions, Nant Conwy.
Skipper Jack Harrison admitted: “It is probably the biggest test there is in North Wales, Nant away. They went unbeaten last year and have won the league for a few years on the bounce.
“Having come up against them three times last season, we know what they’re about, they’re physical and ruthless.
“We know going there we’re going to have to improve defensively, which has been poor so far this season.
“It’ll be a good test for us, they’ll be clear favourites but it’s a chance to show ourselves what we’re about and hopefully we can go there and embrace the challenge, and we’ll see how we go from there.”
Wrexham have conceded in excess of 30 points in each of their games so far this season and that is an obvious aspect they will look to address, especially against a free-scoring Nant Conwy side.
They’ve already scored over 170 points this season, including 59 versus Ruthin and 79 in a thrashing of Llangefni last time out.
All of this means that Nant Conwy are the only team in the division with maximum points.
From Mold’s perspective, they will be aiming to conclude a tricky couple of weeks on a winning note.
Since gaining a bonus point success away to Wrexham on the opening day of the season, things haven’t really gone to plan for the Chester Road outfit.
Heavy defeats versus COBRA and Bethesda lead Mold into tomorrow’s trip to Caeau Les Phillips to tackle Denbigh, last season’s Division Two North champions.
Caernarfon, one of only two teams still undefeated at this point of the season, will target a fourth triumph in a row as they play host to basement side Llangefni, while Ruthin travel to Bala.
COBRA will have home advantage versus Bethesda and Llandudno are away to Pwllheli.
Early Division Two North front-runners Dolgellau are on their travels to Abergele, with third-placed Colwyn Bay entertaining Welshpool.
Rhyl & District and Caernarfon Athletic have away days to Machynlleth and Newtown respectively.
Division Three North East leaders Wrexham Athletic will be looking to make home comforts count as they take on Flint. Third-placed Mold Athletic return to action at home to Llangollen-based Bro Gwernant, while Rhosllanerchrugog host COBRA Athletic. Elsewhere, Denbigh Athletic go to second-placed Llanidloes.
RGC will be hoping to build on a terrific triumph as their home run in Super Rugby Cymru continues tomorrow.
Llandovery, Welsh league champions for the previous two seasons, were defeated 28-23 during their visit to Colwyn Bay and the next visitors to Stadiwm CSM are Pontypool.
Director of rugby Josh Leach told the RGC website: “The next challenge is to build that consistency. We were good for 70 per cent of the game (against Llandovery), but it’s about building on today and looking to improve, take that into next week’s game here against Pontypool.”
Tomorrow’s other fixtures: Carmarthen v Cardiff; Ebbw Vale v Llandovery; Swansea v Bridgend.
