PHIL PARKINSON is delighted with how Ryan Barnett and Max Cleworth are playing and predicted there’s more to come from the Reds duo.

Fans’ favourite Barnett has had an impressive start to the League One season with his constant supply of crosses down the right wing while central defender Cleworth is getting better game by game as already has three goals to his name this season.

Both players are certain to start at Leyton Orient where Wrexham will look to hang on to top spot in League One.

“Everyone’s pleased with Max’s development over the past few years,” said Parkinson, who went on a spying trip to London’s east end to watch The O’s draw 2-2 with Peterborough United on Tuesday night.

“Max has adapted to League One and he’s enjoying his football and like Barney (Ryan Barnett) they have progressed really well.

“But we feel there’s even more to come from the two of them.

“Barney’s got a real appetite for the game. He came back in the summer in really good shape; had a good pre-season and he’s continued that into this season.”

While Cleworth came through the youth ranks at The Racecourse, Barnett was plucked from Solihull Moors after the former Shrewsbury Town youngster was forced to drop down into non-league football.

“He’s a good example of a player, who had had to drop down the leagues, and now he’s worked hard at his game and we’re really pleased with his progress.”

Barnett, who celebrated his 25th birthday last Monday, agreed with his boss about how hard work has got him back into League One.

“Sometimes some people need a setback and that’s what happened to me,” said Barnett. “It spurred me on; I got my head down and worked hard in a bid to prove people wrong.

“And after back-to-back promotions, I’m back in League One and really enjoying it at Wrexham.”

While Barnett and the boys head off to London today, the big game at The Racecourse is on Sunday when the club’s women’s side take on Swansea City.

And Reds boss Parkinson wished them good luck as they bid to end a losing start in this season’s Adran Premier League.

“It’s a good opportunity for the women’s side to experience playing at The Racecourse,” said Parkinson. “And it would be good to get as many supporters in the ground to get behind them.”
