CONNAH’S QUAY NOMADS have halted the losing sequence and now the aim is to get back to winning ways.

Following a run of three losses on the bounce, Billy Paynter’s side arrested this run with a 1-1 midweek draw versus Newtown.

Next up is tomorrow evening’s trip to Caernarfon Town, which will be shown live by S4C’s Sgorio.

While the recent run of results hasn’t been to Nomads’ liking, captain John Disney says the team has remained competitive.

After the draw with Newtown, Disney told Sgorio: “They were quite direct. Played for set plays and long balls and crosses, which is fine.

“You know, that’s their strength and they’ve got two big targets within (Jason) Oswell and (Aaron) Williams.

“A good little runner in (Josh) Lock, he’s a very good player and they’re direct.

“But, I think we managed with a lot of the balls they put into our box.

“Unfortunately with the one that did go in, Aaron Williams shows his bit of quality and scores a good header.

“So, evenly matches teams, yes I would say so, but to be honest, every team that we’ve played this year, although we’ve fell on the back of some unfortunate results in the last couple of weeks, I think we’ve been evenly matched on all of them as well.”

Defending champions The New Saints must do something they haven’t faced in almost five years - recover from back-to-back league defeats.

Bala’s stunning 3-2 success at Park Hall consigned Saints to their first bout of consecutive losses in the league since October 2019 and boss Craig Harrison will be keen for his side to bounce back away to Newtown this evening.

Harrison said: “We just had a mad four-or-five minutes at the end there to concede two goals in injury time, which is really not like us, because we’ve obviously done really well in Europe.

“We kept four clean sheets, three at home and the only team that scored past us, Ferencvaros at home.

“So, we’ve got to be men enough and get on with it and be honest and say that’s not good enough from the top to the bottom, right the way through.

“All of us and we’ve got to do better about it and we’ve got to accept all the criticism that comes our way, because football, it can’t be a one-way street.

“You can’t take pats on the back. In life, you can’t take the pats on the back, then not accept a little bit of criticism when you don’t do what you should be doing.”

Nomads are flying high at the top of the FAW Reserves North East League and the leaders host third-from-bottom Llay Welfare tomorrow.
