LILI JONES admitted Wrexham weren’t good enough as their winless Adran Premier start to the season continued at Briton Ferry Llansawel.

In a repeat of the 2022-23 promotion play-off, Briton Ferry gained their revenge with a comfortable 3-0 triumph over the Reds.

Midfielder Jones told the club’s website: “Weren’t good enough. They were first to everything and they were all over us like a rash.

“That’s pretty much it, we weren’t good enough and we’re just going to have to pick ourselves up and get some points on the board as soon as we can and hopefully do that next week at The Racecourse.”

Briton Ferry Llansawel claimed an 11th minute lead via Lowri Ridings.

Six minutes later and it was 2-0, with Alice Broadley on the scoresheet.

The Reds will have been looking for a fast start after the break, but it was the hosts who put the game to bed with their third goal just two minutes after the restart.

Lucy Powell was the creator for Tija Richardson’s effort.

“It was tough,” added Jones (pictured below). “We can blame the conditions, but I just think they wanted it more than us.

“You know, they were first to first balls, first to second, first to third balls.

“We just couldn’t get hold of the ball.

“So, credit where credit’s due. I think they come out, they were a physical side and they just kept us quiet all game.

“We didn’t create much, which is poor from us, really. But, we’ll go again next week.”

Manager Steve Dale admitted his side failed to reach the levels they realised in an opening day 2-0 loss versus champions Cardiff City.

“Massive contrast to last week’s performance,” said Dale. “You know, we obviously praised the girls in terms of how well they played last week against Cardiff.

“This week, we haven’t hit that level. We said to the girls that it would be a tough game today and we allowed them to dominate us first half in terms of imposing themselves physically on us.

“Didn’t stand up to that and we rightly got punished for it.

“Didn’t start the second half as brightly as what we should have and would have hoped for and, yeah, we get punished again from another set piece and then huffed and puffed, really, and didn’t really deserve to get anything out of the game.

“I think we set our standards last week and we’ve dropped well below our standards this week.

“You’ve got to give them credit.

“They’ve started well this season. They’ll be looking to boost that and have some momentum behind them.”

Wrexham will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing start when they welcome Swansea City to The SToK Racecourse on Sunday.
