MARCHWIEL AND WREXHAM were just pipped at the post in their quest to claim this season’s Division Two crown.

It was Mochdre Seconds who took the title, after scheduled opponents Llay were unable to raise a team for their final match of the season.

This handed Mochdre a maximum 15 points, which meant Marchwiel and Wrexham required four points to take the title.

They would end up with just three, though, as their match at home to Bangor Seconds was abandoned, leaving the sides with three points apiece.

Batting first, Marchwiel and Wrexham were dismissed for 136. Opener Gareth Evans (56) held the innings together, while Sohaib Khan, Christopher Dawson and Hari Griffith Williams took three wickets apiece for Bangor.

The Gwynedd side’s response had reached 68 for one by the time the rain arrived, Matt Lawrenson picking up the wicket.

Pontblyddyn Seconds pipped Corwen by one wicket in a low-scoring thriller. Sion Thomas grabbed five for 29 in Corwen’s 61 all out and Pont reached 62 for nine, despite the best efforts of Steff Lloyd (5-19).

Carmel & District lost out by six wickets to St Asaph Seconds.

Ruthin claimed a final day win to make sure of promotion from Division Three.

Hawarden Park Seconds were in the runners-up berth heading into the weekend, but Ruthin defeated Conwy Seconds by nine wickets to secure promotion.

Osian Roberts and Jac Evans bagged three wickets apiece in Conwy’s 99 for eight, before Evans (62 not out) led Ruthin to 100 for one.

There were away day defeats for Buckley Seconds and Connah’s Quay Seconds. Buckley lost out by seven wickets versus Caernarfon and Denbigh got the better of Quay by nine wickets.

Turning to Division Four and Carmel & District Seconds concluded their campaign via a 48-run triumph at home to Marchwiel and Wrexham Seconds.

Shaun Wheeler (72) top scored in Carmel’s 182 (Richard Samuels 3-30). Set a revised target of 132 from 25 overs, Marchwiel’s response reached 83 for seven (Brandon Williams 32, Jason Hooley 3-14).

Hawarden Park Thirds lost out by eight wickets in their meeting with champions Llandudno Seconds, while Mynydd Isa & Maeshafn (Prasad Jadhav 3-11) were defeated by 36 runs versus Abergele Seconds (Rana Das 4-11).

In the Shropshire League, Chirk Seconds’ meeting with Lilleshall Thirds was abandoned, with the latter on 46 for three. This was in response to Chirk’s 206 for five (Barry Wilding 69 not out, Dale Randall 57).

Northop Hall Seconds got the better of Hightown St Marys Seconds by seven wickets in the Liverpool Competition. Ben Arden (7-22) was in superb form for Hall.
