PHIL PARKINSON was pleased Wrexham bounced back from a first defeat of the season on a day when some teams around them dropped points.

The Reds, whose unbeaten start ended following a 3-1 loss at Birmingham City in the previous match, weren't at their best against Crawley Town at The Racecourse on Saturday but won 2-1.

Elliot Lee gave Wrexham the lead at the interval and although Crawley equalised early in the second half, Max Cleworth headed home George Dobson's cross in the 79th minute to secure victory which keeps Parkinson's men at the top of the table on goal difference from Birmingham who won 2-0 at Rotherham.

Other teams in the chasing pack lost ground but Parkinson was just focussed on his side making an immediate response to the first defeat at St Andrew's.

"Today was about getting back to winning ways and we have managed to do that," said the Reds boss.

"You look at the results around the country and Stockport got beat at home to Orient and Huddersfield losing, when you have had really good runs particularly at home it can be difficult because teams come with a lot of respect for you and set themselves up to play at their very best because they know they have got to get anything from us having seen the manner of our wins recently.

"Crawley were good, we have got to give them credit for that, but from our point of view it was about making sure we kept this start going."

Parkinson added: "When you are not at your best for whatever reason, you have got to stand strong as a team and dig deep, and I felt we did that.

"We showed that resilience towards the end to see the game through.

"There will be other games like this throughout the season home and away where we are not at our best but it's about getting the result and that is a great win."
