IT’S been a case of third time lucky in Division One North action for Wrexham.
Their opening win of the campaign arrived as Wrexham got the better of Denbigh 37-32 in a topsy-turvy showdown at Bryn Estyn Road.
In an ideal start, Lloyd Roberts’ fourth minute try had the home side ahead, but Denbigh turned things around to lead by the 24th minute via a penalty and unconverted try.
Jacob Hughes’ penalty tied things up at 8-8 after half-an-hour, however a converted try saw the visitors arrive at half-time with a seven-point advantage.
It was an all-action start to the second half, with Wrexham hauling themselves level once more through Tom Walker’s try and Hughes’ conversion.
Denbigh regained the lead with an unconverted 47th minute score, but Wrexham then took control of the match with a run of 22 unanswered points.
Tries from Callum Riordan, Scott Leckie and Roberts made sure of the victory, with Hughes kicking two conversions and a penalty.
Two late tries did make sure Denbigh picked up two bonus points from the contest.
Mold failed to make a return to winning ways as they lost out 43-20 at home to Bethesda.
There was at least a bonus point on the day for the hosts, courtesy of tries from Jermaine Munetsi, Scott Jones, Elfyn Davies and Reece Le Tissier.
Leaders Nant Conwy are yet to drop a point following their 79-12 triumph at Llangefni, while a last minute try and touchline conversion saw Caernarfon pip hosts Ruthin 25-23.
Llandudno edged out Bala 16-13 and Pwllheli eased to a 33-10 scoreline in their home clash with COBRA.

RGC gained their first Super Rugby Cymru win of the campaign courtesy of a 28-23 success at home to Llandovery.
The visitors headed north having been Welsh league champions for the previous two seasons, but RGC opened with intent as they looked to put their opponents on the back foot.
Jack Maynard’s penalty gave Llandovery a 14th minute lead, but this was soon cancelled out by Billy McBryde’s three-pointer.
Dan Owen’s try helped the North Walians into a 13-10 lead at the interval, while second half tries were supplied by Connor Dever and McBryde.
Director of rugby Josh Leach told the RGC website: “We have talked about after playing Cardiff and Llandovery – seeing where we would be levels wise, and it’s evident the progress the players have made over the pre-season and the work they have put in.
“Last week against Cardiff we knew we had to make improvements in certain areas and that was our focus and it’s so pleasing as a coaching group to see that we have addressed those areas today.”
Other results: Aberavon 24 Carmarthen Quins 18; Bridgend 26 Pontypool 29; Swansea 27 Newport 35; Cardiff 29 Ebbw Vale 12.
