IT hasn’t been the ideal start to the new Division One North season for either Wrexham or Mold.
Wrexham are still searching for their first triumph of the campaign, while Mold are looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat.
Home comforts should aid the respective causes tomorrow and Wrexham, on the back of two consecutive losses, will be aiming to make it third time lucky as they host Denbigh in the battle of the last two sides to claim the Division Two crown.
Wrexham did manage to secure a bonus point from their 45-28 loss at Bethesda, recovering from a 45-7 deficit. Sam Jones, Callum Riordan, Jack Partington and skipper Jack Harrison grabbed the tries.
Harrison said: “Saturday was a game of two halves. We were really poor first half but managed to show a bit of character to come back and get a bonus point late in the second.
“It’s just basic things that are costing us at the minute, in both attack and defence. We need to iron those out pretty quickly as you can’t afford to make them in this league.
“This week will be another test against a Denbigh team that will want to establish themselves back in Division One after getting promoted last year.
“Hopefully we can learn from our mistakes in the past few weeks and put in a good performance.”
Mold, who started the season with an excellent success against Wrexham, play host to Bethesda tomorrow, looking to bounce back from last week’s 42-10 loss at the hands of COBRA.
Head coach Alex Jones said: “After a disappointing result versus COBRA on the club’s 50th anniversary, we look to make amends and challenge Bethesda for our first home win of the season.”
Nant Conwy are back in their usual position at the head of the standings - and they will take some shifting now.
Last season’s unbeaten league champions have started with two bonus points triumph and they will be targeting the same again away to Llangefni.
Second-placed Caernarfon just a point adrift of the leaders, will look for a third win in a row at Ruthin.
Llandudno, still seeking their first triumph of the new campaign, will welcome Bala, while third-placed COBRA go to Pwllheli, who are sixth.
Division Two North: Abergele v Machynlleth; Dolgellau v Caernarfon Ath; Nant Conwy Ath v Newtown; Rhyl & District v Colwyn Bay.
Action returns in Division Three North East and Wrexham Athletic will go to the top of the table if they can secure a bonus point victory at Denbigh Athletic. Rhosllanerchrugog welcome third-placed Llanidloes, while there are home comforts for Flint for their meeting with Ruthin Athletic.
Elsewhere, Llangollen-based Bro Gwernant go to COBRA Athletic.
A change in the schedule now means that RGC’s Super Cymru clash with Llandovery tomorrow takes place at Colwyn Bay’s Stadiwm CSM.
This fixture has been reversed owing to work on the pitch at Llandovery.
Tomorrow’s other fixtures: Aberavon v Carmarthen Quins; Bridgend v Pontypool; Swansea v Newport.
