RHYDYMWYN - the lowest ranked team left in the competition - are out to cause a shock at Llannefydd.

And the North East Wales Championship side won’t be heading there just to make up the numbers.

“The lads are looking forward to the challenge,” said club secretary Dan Hogan. “Confidence and spirits are high after a solid win on Saturday and the hard work both on and off the pitch from the squad and coaching staff is paying off.

“There is every chance of a result against a higher tier opposition.”

Queen’s Park are also carrying the North East Wales League flag.

They have a cracking home tie against Ardal North West League leaders Porthmadog.

Park boss Mal Wareham, who will be hoping Sean Skimmings can add to his six-goal tally, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Porthmadog for what will be a great game of football.

“Both teams have had a good start to the season.”

It’s away trips for the Ardal North East League duo of Llangollen Town and Brickfield Rangers.

Llangollen go to St Asaph City and boss Luke Maybury said: “I know a little about them, but with the managerial change this week, it blows the game into unknown territory from a tactical point of view.

“The boys are excited for this game, a good chance to progress in the Welsh Cup against a solid tier three side.”

It’s a trip to the coast for Bricky, who face Kinmel Bay.

Gareth Wilson’s side are having a great season although they lost top spot to Bow Street last weekend after being held to a 2-2 draw at Radnor Valley.

“Saturday was a missed opportunity,” said Wilson. “We should have taken three points.

“However, credit to the lads. They have been amazing so far this season and the run had to end some time.”

The one highlight of the draw was striker Andy Vale scoring his 100th goal for the club with Wilson adding: “Andy’s done well this season. He’s getting better every game.”

Vale will be a key man at the Bay, who Wilson rates highly.

“They are a very very good side and would easily compete in tier three,” said Wilson. “They have some outstanding players and it will be an extremely tough test.”
