ADEN SHANNON is challenging his Flint Mountain players to go on another cup run this season.

Flint reached the quarter-finals last season before being knocked out at Bala Town.

“We had a great run in the Welsh Cup last year and had some great days out, so hopefully we can replicate that,” said Shannon (pictured below) ahead of tomorrow’s tasty trip to Rhyl, who they pipped to the Ardal North West League title last season.

“It’s going to be a tough game against a good Rhyl side who have started well themselves

“We just have to keep doing what we are doing but be more in clinical in front of goal

“We have some good youngsters in our side now who are all working hard for each other and it’s great to see.”

Llay Welfare head to Corwen on the back of breaking their duck in Cymru North.

“We had to put a performance in for the supporters last weekend,” said Llay boss Phil Hudson after a 1-0 home win over Caersws.

“The lads done everything asked of them and delivered a top display and were worthy winners.”

Boosted by the return of Dean Bryan, Dave McIntyre, Ruben Lima and Max Peate, Hudson added: “It gives us a strong squad to go with after a superb win last weekend.”

Caersws will aim to bounce back at home to Cefn Albion, who also need to wipe out memories of a week ago.

Albion were blitzed 5-1 at home by Llanuwchllyn with boss Ian Andrews admitting: “Saturday was as bad as it can get with the first three goals gifts.

“If you gift opportunities against good teams and players then you will get punished.

“We’ve got a cup game against Caersws to try and get some belief back in ourselves, we need to accept that we are making too many errors at the moment and need to cut out the mistakes.”

Nic Jones, Nathan Williams, Kien Morris and Tyler Wilkinson miss out, while Torne Samuels and Conner Kendrick need fitness checks.

“We’re looking at possibly bringing two or three players in over the next couple of weeks to strengthen our squad and give us more depth,” added Andrews.

Llanuwchllyn, for whom Meilir Williams hit a hat-trick in the win at Cefn, are also on the road at Penmaenmawr Phoenix while Llandudno - the other Cymru North side entering the competition at this stage - kick off the action at home to Llanberis tonight.

Gresford Athletic are up for the cup with an all-Cymru North encounter.

Eddie Maurice-Jones’ side have home advantage for tomorrow’s meeting with Prestatyn Town.

“I believe they were really good versus Buckley,” said Maurice-Jones. “I don’t know much about them. Just worry about ourselves, which is what we should do week in, week out.”

Gresford go into the match-up following on from a fine 1-0 triumph against Guilsfield.

The match marked the return of Dominic Deacon after more than a month out through injury.

“We gave him about 15 minutes towards the end. He looks hungry,” said Maurice-Jones earlier this week.

“He looks like a new signing. He trained last night and he looked unbelievable.”
