PHIL PARKINSON says there is no reason for Wrexham to feel down or get carried away after losing their unbeaten record.

The Reds went into Monday's game against Birmingham sitting top of League One after taking 13 points from a possible 15 but suffered a 3-1 defeat at St Andrew's.

Despite losing for the first time this season, Wrexham remain leaders on goal difference.

Birmingham, who came from behind to secure three points, earned plaudits following their excellent performance but Parkinson is just focussed on his own side.

"Credit to them, we will take the defeat on the chin," said Parkinson, who saw the Reds take a third minute lead through Jack Marriott's fourth goal of the campaign.

"After the way we started the season, you felt we were in a really good place going into the game and it looked like that when we scored but once they got the first goal they grew in confidence.

"We won't get too carried away with this defeat and I don't think we should get too carried away with Birmingham.

"It was good performance from them and they are unbeaten at the start of the season but there's a lot of football to be played."

Birmingham were the highest spenders in the third tier during the summer transfer window with the Blues looking to bounce back at the first attempt following last season's relegation from the Championship.

Parkinson, backed by Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, was also able to splash the cash but he says Wrexham won't live beyond their means.

"No-one can compete in this division with Birmingham," he added. "It would be madness for us.

"We are on a journey as a club, we are trying to build a sustainable football club and it would be absolute madness to say we could compete with Birmingham's spending, it is just impossible.

"They have spent more than any other club outside the Premier League but if I was in their position with those resources available, you'd get the best possible players you can and that's they've done."
