GEORGE DOBSON insists the belief in the Wrexham camp remains strong after suffering a first defeat of the campaign.

The unbeaten run in League One came to an end on Monday night when Birmingham City triumphed 3-1 at St Andrews.

The Reds remain top of the table on goal difference and Dobson says the players have no reason to be down after making such a positive start to the season.

"The belief is really strong in the changing room and that is not going to change," said the midfielder, who will be looking for a response when Wrexham host Crawley Town on Saturday.

"We have got a real strong squad and we have got real belief as a group.

"There is a lot of optimism and will go out on Saturday and give it our all, and hopefully bounce back.

"We have had a real tough start, a lot of really tough games, but 13 points from six games is still a really strong points return.

"We have just got to take Tuesday with a pinch of salt and learn from it because there is a lot we can be better at."

Jack Marriott gave Wrexham the perfect start when he scored his fourth goal in six outings after just three minutes.

However, Jay Stansfield, who signed for Birmingham on a permanent basis in a big-money move over the summer, levelled midway through the opening period and the striker gave City the lead after the break before Tomoki Iwata sealed victory.

Wrexham were quick out of the blocks but Dobson felt they could have played better after being pegged back by the Blues who attracted a crowd of nearly 28,000 for the third tier fixture.

"We started really well and not just the goal," said Dobson. "For the first 20 minutes, the goal rocked them a little bit and we got some nice passages of play in.

"We seemed in control and obviously they then scored with their first chance of the game.

"They had a fantastic crowd in and it gave them a real lift. They came out second half and we conceded a couple of goals when we could have done better.

"It is a tough ask to come back from that.

"Birmingham had a lot of quality, they have spent a lot of money and have got some fantastic players for the level and we probably needed one or two things to go our way but there are things we know we could have done better."

More than 2,000 Wrexham supporters made the trip and Dobson praised the brilliant backing.

"The fans were unbelievable," he added.

"It was a great occasion and a great game to play in.

"Obviously we are disappointed we've not sent them home with anything but they amazing throughout and after the game.

"Hopefully we can give them something to cheer about on Saturday and everyone will be happy again."
