COEDPOETH UNITED aren’t just known for their infamous sloping pitch anymore.

The Wrexham village club, whose Penygelli pitch is a well-known landmark in amateur football, is thriving, boasting 21 teams across all age and gender groups with 350 players on their books.

Proud chairman Mark Hughes said: “We still use the home pitch but the first team has been playing at Lex for a few years and in fact it’s one of eight different sites we play at.

“It’s been a real effort by everyone in the village, the committee, the coaches for us to have 21 teams and around 350 players.

“The junior section is thriving and the first team have had a good start - and we want give junior players the pathway to go through the ranks to the first team.

“We finished second from bottom last season but it’s such a tough league with some good teams in it.

“We’ve stuck at and manager Wayne Jones is doing a good job.”
