MO FAAL jumped at the chance to sign for ambitious Wrexham and the striker says he can feel the excitement around The Racecourse.

Gambian-born Faal joined the Reds from West Brom for an undisclosed fee on transfer deadline day, putting pen to paper on a contract through to June 2027 with an option for a further year.

Funded by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the feelgood factor has returned to Wrexham who have clinched back-to-back promotions and made a brilliant start to the League One campaign, and Faal wanted to be a part of it when he knew the Reds were interested in him.

"There is an exciting feeling around the club, you can feel it," said the 21-year-old.

"There is a clear vision and I am just glad to be a part of it.

"Everybody in football knows what is going on here so to say I am part of it is a great feeling.

"It's one of those opportunities that doesn't come about often but when it does, you have got to jump all over it and grab it.

"I was tying to get myself out in pre-season and when the window was open, whether that was on loan or permanent.

"I wanted to find somewhere to play and call my home so when this came through, I said 'this has got to happen'."

While with the Baggies, Faal made his professional debut in August 2021 and spent time on loan with Hereford, Telford United and AFC Fylde.

Last season, he got his his taste of the Football League, scoring nine goals for Doncaster - he found the net in a 2-1 defeat at Wrexham last September - before switching to Walsall where he netted six times.

After testing himself in League Two, Faal  is looking forward to his first experience of the third tier.

"I was good for me to get out and play in the league and challenge myself," he said.

"That is why I am here, to challenge myself again.

"I enjoyed it last season and hopefully I can keep that momentum this season.

"It is the next step - after League Two comes League One so hopefully I can embrace that challenge and go and smash it."

Faal has set his sights high and hopes to challenge for promotion with Wrexham.

"Everyone here knows what we are trying to do," said Faal.

"We definitely want to be challenging to go up.

"The fans, players and all the staff know what is required for that so we are all working together to try and make that possible."

Wrexham are unbeaten after the opening four games, taking 10 points from a possible 12 to sit second in the table, but Faal is not looking too far ahead.

"We are definitely not getting carried away," added Faal, an unused substitute on Saturday when Wrexham won 2-0 at Peterborough.

"We've only played four games so we are not that far into the season.

"It's been a good start so we want to keep the momentum and hopefully carry it on."
