A WREXHAM speed merchant is going with the drift to compete in an international competition.
Professional drift driver Lwi Edwards, 22, is taking to the international stage after being selected to represent Team UK at the forthcoming FIA Motorsport Games in Valencia, Spain.
Wrexham born and bred, Edwards won his first competition in 2019 and has worked his way up the ranks to be one of the best drifters in the UK.
After winning the premier 2023 MSUK Drift Pro Championship he has been accepted to be the sole representative as pro drifter for Team UK. Edwards drives a highly modified 800hp BMW E36 built and maintained by small family Wrexham company Allitalia Ltd.
The FIA Motorsport Games brings nations and drivers together every two years from more than 70 countries for the world’s biggest festival of motorsport and gives the opportunity for drivers to win gold, silver and bronze medals for their nation.
For 2024 the host City Valencia, Spain will have a spectacular opening ceremony to start the games on October 23.
“I am honoured to have been chosen to represent Team UK at the Motorsport Games,” said Edwards. “The opportunity for a small family-owned team from Wrexham to compete at the highest level in drifting is an amazing achievement that I have been striving for the last five years.
“The team is working hard behind me and I am at my peak to push for a great result for Team UK.”
