JACK MARRIOTT believes Wrexham have "put down a marker" with their win over Peterborough United.

Phil Parkinson's side beat The Posh, managed by former Reds captain Darren Ferguson, 2-0 at London Road to continue the unbeaten start to the League One campaign.

Marriott opened the scoring against his former club following brilliant build-up play and Max Cleworth doubled the lead before the break, with Wrexham limiting the home team to few chances in the second half thanks to resolute defending.

Back-to-back promotion winners Wrexham have taken 10 points from the opening four games and sit second in the table, and Marriott feels the Reds have shown what they are capable of.

"We want to come to these places and put a marker down, and we did that," said experienced frontman Marriott, a League One Golden Boot during his first spell with The Posh.

"Peterborough are always there or thereabouts, they've been in the play-offs the last couple of years, and it shows what we are about. We are here to put our marker down.

"It was the first time I've been back to Peterborough and it was nice to get the win.

"Everyone out there was empty in the tank, putting everything they can in to get a really good away performance like that, and a fully deserved win."

Marriott, who scored a stunning goal in the 3-2 opening day victory at home to Wycombe Wanderers, found the net against The Posh with a cool finish from George Dobson's pass.

"It was a great footballing goal," said Marriott. "Lots of good play and some running off the ball.

"A great lay-off from George and I managed to do the rest.

"It was a really good team goal and it shows what we are all about."

Marriott and Ollie Palmer have stated in attack for the opening four games but Parkinson is not short of strike options.

Paul Mullin missed the start of the season after undergoing spinal surgery in the summer but he has come off the bench in the last two games, Steven Fletcher has made four substitute appearances and Mo Faal joined Wrexham from West Brom on transfer deadline day for an undisclosed fee.

There is competition for places up front but it is something that Marriott will thrive on.

"I just want to keep doing my best for the team," added Marriott, joint top scorer alongside Max Cleworth with two goals apiece.

"Score my chances when I get them and keep winning games.

"There is healthy competition and that strives every individual to do their best for the team.

"It is great for the team in general having so much competition throughout the whole squad.

"It helps us put really good performances in.

"We have got a good group of lads, we all fight for each other and ultimately that's what gets us over the line in a lot of games."
