PHIL PARKINSON is pleased with the attacking options at his disposal and says the battle is on to displace Jack Marriott and Ollie Palmer.

Mo Faal joined Wrexham on transfer deadline day and with three frontmen - Sam Dalby, Jake Bickerstaff and Billy Waters - going out on loan, it leaves the Reds' boss with five strikers.

Marriott and Palmer have started the opening four League One games of the season in the absence of Paul Mullin who underwent spinal surgery in the summer and made his second substitute appearance in Saturday's 2-0 win at Peterborough which maintained the unbeaten start.

With Steven Fletcher also competing for a starting berth, Parkinson says Marriott and Palmer have got their spot in the side on merit.

"Mulls isn't quite ready yet," said the Reds' boss

"He's getting there and that's the best he's felt when he came on. I thought he was so sharp.

"But Jack has done well. Jack and Ollie have got the shirts at the moment and the other players have got to wrestle them away from them."

Marriott bagged his second goal of the season against former club Peterborough, finding the net following a brilliant move.

But as well as scoring, Parkinson felt the 29-year-old and Palmer deserve a lot of credit for their work-rate at London Road.

"It was a real quality goal by Jack," added Parkinson, who saw Wrexham make it 10 points from a possible 12 after beating the Posh and move up to second in the table.

"Great movement from Jack and a good finish.

"I keep saying to the front two that what we are pleased with at the moment is their work for the team and the key moments come on the back of that.

"That is why we are winning games at the start of the season."
