HOLDERS Mold Alex have been knocked out first time around following their defeat at home to Holywell Town.

Mold claimed the trophy with victory versus Llandudno at the end of last season, however the Wellmen prevailed 1-0 in a closely fought first round encounter.

Holywell enjoyed a bright start, with Danny Andrews, Beau Cornish and Morgan Murray having opportunities.

The key breakthrough arrived on 11 minutes and it was Andrews who found the target direct from a corner kick.

Ryan Coney did go close to a Mold leveller, while at the other end, Jake Roberts was denied by keeper Michael Crossley.

Seydou Bamba and Dafydd Griffith had further opportunities for Mold before the end, but Holywell managed to secure their second win of the month at Alyn Park.

Llay Welfare are also through to the next stage following their 2-1 triumph at Buckley Town.

All of the goalscoring action arrived in the concluding 10 minutes of the first half.

Max Moore set up Danny Holland to give Asa Hamilton’s hosts a 35th minute lead, however this was cancelled out by Chris Hibbert within four minutes.

Then, right on the stroke of half-time, Ruben Lima Teixeira’s strike proved to be the decisive one to confirm progress for Phil Hudson’s visitors.

Flint Mountain departed the competition following a penalty shootout loss to Colwyn Bay.

It finished up 1-1, with Mountain claiming a 22nd minute lead when Rowan Whelan netted with a header from a corner.

Tom Dyer’s attempt from distance struck the crossbar as Aden Shannon’s visitors looked to double their advantage, however Lloyd Marsh-Hughes hauled the Seagulls level prior to the interval.

Mountain had opportunities in the second half, with Rhys Lloyd saving well from Mike Hayes and Rob Hughes’ angled shot went just wide of the target.

Flint Mountain keeper John Danby saved Bay’s opening penalty in the shootout, but two saves from Rhys Lloyd saw Colwyn Bay win it 4-3.

Bay assistant boss Danny Harrison told the club’s YouTube channel: “Really pleased to get through the tie.

“Really, that was the sort of remit coming into the game that we want to win every game that we’re involved in, especially any cup competitions.”

Cymru North leaders Airbus are safely through courtesy of a 3-1 verdict versus Llandudno, who saw Mark Cadwallader’s 34th minute penalty being saved by man of the match Keighan Jones.

There was a goal frenzy late in the first half, with the Wingmakers netting through George Peers and Sam Baker, either side of Harvey Bennett’s goal.

Substitute Daniel Collins added a third for Airbus in the second half.

Cameron Allen’s first half strike made sure of Penrhyncoch’s 1-0 win over Prestatyn Town, while Bangor 1876 defeated Caersws 5-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
