WREXHAM secured a 2-0 win against Peterborough United to maintain the unbeaten start to the campaign and climb up to second place in League One.

First half goals from Jack Marriott and Max Cleworth secured another victory for Phil Parkinson's men who have taken 10 points from their opening four fixtures.

It was an entertaining clash against the Posh, who are managed by former Reds' captain Darren Ferguson and have reached the play-offs in each of the last two seasons.

But Wrexham took their chances and picked up a first away win of 2024-25 on the back of a goalless draw at Bolton, with the Reds now on the same points tally as leaders Stockport County.

After producing a fantastic performance in the 3-0 home win against Reading the previous weekend to extend the unbeaten start to the season, it was no surprise to see Parkinson name an unchanged side.

There was a place on the substitutes bench for new signing Mo Faal, with the striker joining Wrexham from West Brom for an undisclosed fee on transfer deadline day.

Wrexham made a bright start and Andy Cannon's low drive fell narrowly wide in the third minute.

Despite early pressure from the visitors, Peterborough came more into the game as the Reds lost their way and the Posh had a good chance when Abraham Odoh beat Eoghan O'Connell for pace and squared to Malik Mothersille who fired wide from six yards.

However, Wrexham took the lead in the 28th minute following good build-up play.

Elliot Lee fed George Dobson who laid off in the area to Marriott and the striker's shot deflected into the net off a defender's leg.

Wrexham continued to press and won a series of corners, with one paying off as the Reds made it 2-0 after 39 minutes.

Tom O'Connor delivered the flag-kick into the danger-zone and Cleworth headed home from close range.

Jack Sparkes couldn't keep his effort down for Posh while Wrexham came close to a third goal when O'Connor's free-kick struck the crossbar.

There was an opportunity for Posh just before the break but Joel Randall failed to hit the target following a good move.

Peterborough had the first sight of goal in the second half but Sparkes' cross was headed over by Hector Kyprianou.

Lee volleyed wide at the other end but Peterborough got into another good position with Oscar Wallin unable to guide his effort on target from Chris Conn-Clarke's free-kick.

Wrexham were dealt a blow on 62 minutes when Cannon limped off injured and had to be replaced by Ollie Rathbone.

The Posh were quickly back on the attack and Conn-Clarke's curling shot went narrowly wide but Wrexham also came close following a brilliant break.

Ryan Barnett raced onto Steven Fletcher's headed clearance and picked out Paul Mullin who volleyed wide from close range.

Wrexham held firm at the other end and were good value for three points.
