WREXHAM athlete Ian Broadhurst has continued to be a global master!

Fresh from winning the M70 300-metre hurdles title at the World Masters’ Championships in Gothenburg, Broadhurst followed it up by becoming the 400-metres world champion with his time of 64.13 seconds.

Broadhurst clocked 27.65 to finish fifth in the 200-metres.

Deeside played host to the Welsh Athletics endurance open, where Richard Westwood achieved a time of 12-02.02 in the M45 3000-metres.

Deestrider Max Dowell ran an excellent personal best of 10-23 in the race.

A strong Wrexham AAC contingent turned out for the Northern senior league fixture at Wavertree.

Lucy Jones achieved a personal best of 12.87 for second spot in the senior women’s 100-metres, with Erin Smith continuing the personal best theme with 71.20 to finish as runner-up in the 400-metres.

Smith was also second in the 1500-metres (5-42.77), while Immy Jones was third in the 800-metres (2-44.17) and 3000-metres (11-42.92).

A personal best of 30.71m saw Isabelle Collins fourth in the hammer, a position she matches in the shot put (9.03m).

Over in the senior men’s class and it was a busy day for Thomas Walley.

He won the pole vault (4.80m) and triple jump (12.77m), while Walley was third in both the high jump (1.75m) and long jump (6.25m).

A hectic day too for Neil Edwards, who won the shot put (9.60m) and discus (30.82m), took second in the 110-metre hurdles (23.28) and hammer (28.70m), plus claimed third in the javelin (35.03m).

Mannie Thomas took fourth place in the 200-metres (25.11), Glyn Wise claimed third spot in the 400-metre hurdles (73.12), plus first place in the B 110-metre hurdles (23.74), and Jamie Lewis (30.62) was runner-up in the B javelin.

Thomas Povey claimed second spot in the B 800-metres (2-23.59) and fifth in the 5000-metres (19-18.21), with Oliver Edwards second in the B 100-metres (11.51), fourth in the 800-metres (2-16.81) and a member of the 4x400m relay team that was fourth in 4-05.09.

Plenty of Wrexham AAC vests were on show at the Cheshire track and field league meet in Oldham.

In the senior men’s section, Neil Edwards won the javelin (33.46m), finished second in the high jump (1.35m) and took third in both the 100-metres (15.4) and 1500-metres (9-13.4).

Lasitha Ekanayake (25.3) was third in the U15 boys’ 200-metres, while over in the U13 boys’ class, Tomasi Fidow (9.60m) triumphed in the shot put.

Spencer Jones was runner-up in the high jump (1.20m) and won the B shot put (7.22m), while Jake McGlynn was fourth in the 100-metres (15.8) and won the B high jump (1.15m).

Ellis Jones took a hat-trick of third places in the U11 boys’ 150-metres (26.3), long jump (2.88m) and soft javelin (11.97m).

Respective javelin triumphs in the senior women’s and U17 women’s categories went the way of Wrexham’s Jen Hampton (26.23m) and Annabelle Jones (27.56m).

Seren Fidow (10.92m) was second in the U11 girls’ soft javelin and Katie McGlynn finished third in the U13 girls’ long jump (3.36m).

During a busy day, Katie was also fourth in the 200-metres (31.9) and shot put (5.09m).

Wrexham’s Owain Roberts clocked 53.11 to cross the line 181st at the Cilcain mountain race.

As ever, parkruns have proved to be popular with Wrexham AAC members.

A lucky 13th spot was taken at Ruthin by Richard Westwood (20.53), with Mike Robbins (23.25) 75th in Warrington.

Glyn Wise (20.37) crossed the line in 15th position at Barmouth, with Tony Forster (16th in 22.04) and Steve Jones (18th in 22.56) representing the club at Alderford Lake.

Charles Ashley (45th in 26.42) spear-headed a trio of Wrexham athletes in action at the Llangollen event, followed by Jennifer Moss (77th in 31.00) and Stephen Walker (105th in 44.21).

Over at Erddig, 34th-placed Jonathan Davies (24.36) was the first Wrexham AAC racer to finish, ahead of Peter Hughes (65th in 26.35), Colin Jones (75th in 26.50) and Simon Williams (97th in 28.02).

They were followed by Karl Moore (125th in 29.54), Gwenllian Roberts (136th in 30.35), Peter Sussex (140th in 30.44), Phil Walker (141st in 30.58) and John Tipping (243rd in 57.35).

This weekend’s action opens with the Mid Cheshire 5k, in Kingsley, on Friday.

The following day sees Wrexham hosting the North Wales U11-U15 league and open event, with the Gladstone fell race, at Penmaenmawr, on Sunday.
