WHAT a start to the season it has been for Charlie Caton.
Caton (pictured above) struck twice as Chester grabbed a thrilling 3-2 National League North triumph at home to Scarborough Athletic.
However, it was left to Kurt Willoughby to supply the coup-de-grace with his stoppage time winner at the Deva Stadium.
Just five minutes had elapsed when Scarborough got their noses in front.
Dom Tear opened the scoring with a lob over Blues’ keeper Cam Mason.
However, that lead wasn’t destined to last for long and Chester hauled themselves level within four minutes.
Caton opened his account for the afternoon by smashing an effort into the top corner from Declan Weeks’ assist.
It was Chester - and Caton - at the double after 20 minutes.
Willoughby’s long throw was flicked on by Harrison Burke and after Weeks’ effort was blocked, Caton put away the rebound.
It was level once more with 13 minutes remaining as Frank Mulhern netted from close range.
Then, in the second minute of stoppage time, Willoughby’s strike from outside the box won it for Calum McIntyre’s Blues in the most dramatic of circumstances.
This completed a fine week for Chester, which has seen them pick up seven points from a possible nine and they sit 15th in the National League North standings.
Leaders Scunthorpe won 2-0 at South Shields, while second-placed Kidderminster Harriers thrashed Oxford City 4-0.
