IT has not gone unnoticed how intimidating The Racecourse can be for opposition players so Andy Cannon says Wrexham need to continue to make the most of home comforts.

After clinching back to back promotions, Phil Parkinson's side kicked off the new League One campaign with a 3-2 win against Wycombe Wanderers at their iconic north Wales stadium.

More than 13,200 fans were in attendance and after the game, former Wales international Sam Vokes admitted his Wycombe team-mates were taken aback by the atmosphere, and how tough The Racecourse will be for visiting teams.

Cannon says the Reds must keep taking advantage of Wrexham's home ground being a daunting place for opponents.

"One of the Wycombe players touched on it that he was a bit taken aback by the crowd, the noise and everything," said the midfielder.

"We have got to be able to use that to our full advantage and put on good performances.

"If they can back us, it is only going to help us on the pitch."

Wrexham boast a fantastic home record under Parkinson and Cannon insists hard work is the key to making The Racecourse a fortress.

"If you only have to turn up and get three points as easy at that then you would but you have always got to give 100 per cent in every game," said Cannon.

"On the opposite side you have got 11 players who are there to try and win the game as well; they are in this league so they are going to have good players too.

"We know it's not a given and we know we need to work hard every game to get the points and we have got lads in there who are willing to do that.

"If we keep on doing that, hopefully we get the good results."

Wrexham built on the opening day win by securing a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Bolton Wanderers - beaten play-off finalists last season and one of the promotion favourites - last Sunday.

Reading have also taken four points from their opening two fixtures but Cannon is looking for the Reds to continue their unbeaten start.

"Reading are another big club that were in the Championship for years," added the 28-year-old.

"It's going to be another tough game, we have to go out there and try to put on a good performance and get a good result."
