CALUM MCINTYRE was extremely disappointed with Chester’s opening day showing.

The Blues’ trip to Spennymoor Town ended in a 3-0 defeat to begin the National League North campaign.

Boss McIntyre told Chester FC TV: “It’s a very disappointing result at what can be a tough place to come.

“These trips to the North East can be really challenging, but the performance was a long way away from what we expect and what we require.

“So, not our day, at times of our own making and I’m very, very disappointed. I’m sure our supporters are as well, because that was a long way away from where we need to be, where I expect us to be and, certainly, where I intend us to be over the next 45 games.”

A goal in each half from Isaac Fletcher had the hosts in control and Spennymoor made the three points safe with Matty Dolan’s strike a quarter-of-an-hour from time.

McIntyre added: “So many mistakes, individual errors in possession.

“I haven’t really seen that side of us and I think that’s what I’m so disappointed of.

“I haven’t seen any sign of that during pre-season. I haven’t seen any indications of that on the training ground and it almost feels like ‘wow, we’ve been punched in the nose out of nowhere’.

Ex-Chester manager Neil Young led promoted Marine to a 1-1 draw at home to Oxford City.

Radcliffe - managed by ex-Blues’ duo Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley - drew 3-3 at home to Scarborough.

Scunthorpe, Hereford and Curzon Ashton kicked off with 3-0 wins over Brackley, South Shields and Needham Market respectively.

Other results: Buxton 2 Leamington 1; Darlington 1 Kidderminster 2; Southport 3 Alfreton 1; Rushall 2 Farsley 3; Peterborough Sports 0 Chorley 1; King’s Lynn 3 Warrington 1.
