WREXHAM have been given a 37 per cent chance of going straight back down to League Two by the OPTA supercomputer.

The League One season gets underway this weekend, with the Reds playing host to Wycombe Wanderers at The Racecourse on Saturday.

As always, there’s questions and debates on how each team will get on and how they’ll fare over the course of the season.

Some have predicted Wrexham, who have won back-to-back promotions for the first time in their history, to thrive in League One, with odds of 5-1 to gain promotion and 15/8 to make the play-offs.

Other AI predictions have forecast that Wrexham will be playing Premier League football and venturing back into Europe in the next decade.

But that isn’t the view of the experts at OPTA.

The OPTA Analyst supercomputer has predicted who will finish where – and it could be bad news for the Reds.

OPTA have also given a percentage chance of each club finishing in their predicted place, as well as an average points total after 10,000 simulated seasons - and Bolton Wanderers are the team that comes out on top spot.

According to OPTA, Wrexham will finish this season in 20th place, missing out on relegation back to League Two by just one point.

They’re also predicting that the Reds have a 37 per cent chance of being relegated from League One and a 0.6 per cent chance of making the play-offs.

Fellow promoted teams Crawley Town and Mansfield Town are expected to struggle with both predicted to go back down alongside Shrewsbury Town and Burton Albion.

At the top half, Bolton would be champions with Birmingham City taking the second automatic promotion place.

Huddersfield Town , Peterborough United, Lincoln City and Blackpool are predicted to make up the play-off spots.
