MANY people would anticipate a step-up in skill level will be the main issue facing Wrexham in League One this season.

However, Reds’ boss Phil Parkinson has a different opinion.

Parkinson has led Wrexham to back-to-back promotions for the first time in the club’s history and the Reds are now preparing for their first season in League One in almost two decades.

Focusing on the difference in League One, Parkinson told a press conference prior to the Reds clash with Vancouver Whitecaps: “For us, going up a level, athletically the players are stronger, fitter, obviously better.

“So, that’s an obvious thing to say. But, sometimes people think the technical ability is a big difference.

“It can be the athletic ability between the divisions.”

On what he expects from the third tier Parkinson added: “A mixture of styles of play.

“You know, there will be some teams who’ll be very direct in the way they play.

“There’ll be some teams who’ll play out from the back and try and play through the thirds and I think that’s a beauty of football in the UK, that each week there is a lot of different styles you come up against and managers have got different ways of playing.

“Different systems. Some clubs have got a kind of identity and the fans accept a really direct kind of physical game.

“Other teams you’ll go to, their identity is to play pure football.

“So, that’s a great challenge on a week-to-week basis to come up against different styles and make sure we’re prepared for that and we’re ready to adapt on a game-to-game basis.”
