JAMES MCCLEAN has signed a new contract with Wrexham which will keep him at The Racecourse for the next two seasons.

Former Republic of Ireland international McClean, who joined the Reds a year ago, has signed a new deal until the end of the 2025/26 season.

McClean, 35, joined the club ahead of the start of the 2023-24 League Two season and and his contract was automatically extended upon gaining promotion to League One.

On signing this new contract, McClean told the club's website: “I’m obviously delighted. Since I’ve been here, I’ve really enjoyed it and to be given the opportunity to continue that for another two seasons is something I’m really looking forward to.

“It’s been successful so far and hopefully there’s more success to come over the next two seasons.”

He made his Wrexham debut in a 1-1 draw away to AFC Wimbledon and McClean grabbed his first goal for the Reds in the comeback win against Port Vale in the EFL Trophy.

McClean scored three league goals in all during his first season with the club, including the decisive strike in in the Boxing Day victory at Swindon Town.

Manager Phil Parkinson said: “We’re pleased James has signed a new contract.

“He was excellent for us last season, and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with him.”

McClean made 44 Wrexham appearances in all competitions last season as the club made it back-to-back promotions for the first time in the club's history.

He was part of the Wrexham squad which completed an unbeaten North American tour ahead of the new season.

Parkinson's side finished off the tour with a comfortable 4-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps, following on from draws with Premier League AFC Bournemouth and Chelsea.

Wrexham will open their League One season at home to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
