EUROPE is calling for talented Wrexham Futsal players.

Pro Futsal Cymru, a Wrexham-based team, are all set to test themselves against the cream of players on the continent.

They will be representing Wales in the UEFA Futsal Champions League later this month.

PF Cymru will travel to Sofia on August 20 to take on the champions on Bulgaria, Switzerland and San Marino in the preliminary round of the competition.

In what is, as expected, a stacked tournament, teams including Barcelona and Sporting Lisbon are amongst the highest ranked sides in the event.

"We were founded in 2019 and are a club run by volunteers," said Pro Futsal Cymru's Rob Goring.

"Myself and Richie Jones ran the club. We set it up for a development team for young lads coming through."

The duo have also been involved with the Cheshire and Cefn Druids Futsal set-ups

Goring added: "PF Cymru was a development team that's now a bit of a hybrid.

"We've got a combination of young lads coming through and we've got 16, 18 and 21-year-olds who have all played.

"Other local lads have all played for us and a few senior players that were at Druids. We're a bit of a mixed bag, really."

Dave Cottle civil engineering and Brother, from Ruabon, have stepped in with funding for the club's Champions League adventure.

"We head out on Tuesday the 20th, flying out to Sofia," added Goring.

The Swiss team are the highest ranked and they will be PF Cymru's first opponents.

Then it's the second-ranked Bulgarian team, prior to a match versus the side from San Marino.

"Realistically, we are looking to get a result in the third game," said Goring.

"The Swiss team are a professional team, from what we've heard.

"We have been working on our strategy over the last couple of months.

"It's a different challenge. We are going to have to be working hard out of possession.

"Our aim is to press them high and make them earn it."

Manchester, who are the English champions, beat PF Cymru 7-2 in a competitive friendly.

"That's a good indication of what we're up against," said Goring.

In preparation for their trip to Bulgaria, the team will play host to Derby at Glyndwr University this Sunday (1.30pm).

They will travel to Bolton for a further friendly on Monday evening.
