IT’S only the first week in August but a fourth cup competition kicks off tonight.

After the Welsh Cup, Welsh League Cup and Welsh Trophy began in July, now it’s the first round qualifiers in the North East Wales FA Cup.

FC Queen’s Park have had a great start to the season but they have a tough trip to Penyffordd Lions, who lifted two cups last season.

Lex XI enjoyed a terrific 2-1 victory at Rhostyllen in the Welsh Trophy on Saturday. Tonight they head a bit further down to road to tackle Ruabon Rovers.

Rhostyllen will look to bounce back at Coedpoeth United while Saltney Town host Greenfield looking for their first win of the season.

Acton host Hawarden Rangers, Rhydymwyn make the short trip to Yr Wyddgrug and Gronant welcome Mynydd Isa.

Broughton United, Holywell United and Skippy will be aiming to make home advantage count against Aston Park Rangers, Caerwys and Castell Alun.

Carwyn Davies was Rhos Aelwyd’s hat-trick hero in a 5-2 victory over Brickfield Rangers in Group A of the North East Wales’ Reserves Division.

Morgan Taylor and Lee Hanmer also scored with Alex Leaney and Joise Fernandes replying.

Corwen’s Wes Brereton scored at both ends in his side’s 3-2 win at Hawarden Rangers for whom Ryan Moore also netted. Henry Evans and Joel Gardner were Corwen’s other marksmen.

In Group B, Greenfield’s 5-3 success at Johnstown sent them top.

Coedpoeth United’s clash with Brymbo ended goal-less.

Tonight’s Group A fixtures: Brickfield v Cefn Alb; Corwen v Llangollen.

In the FAW Reserves North East League, Ruthin Town are at home to St Asaph.
