CRAIG GRIFFITHS conjured up a 99th minute winner as Lex XI grabbed a dramatic 2-1 victory at Rhostyllen.

The tie looked to being heading to penalties after home captain Drew Wickens had cancelled out Josh Phillips’ early effort.

But Griffiths had the final say, just as Mynydd Isa, FC Queen’s Park and Rhuddlan Town did in the shoot-out victories over Meliden, Rhydymwyn and Deeside Dragons respectively.

Isa, for whom Dylan Roberts netted in normal time, won 5-4 on penalties after their tie ended 1-1.

Josh Venables and Sean Price were Park’s marksmen in a cracking clash that finished 2-2, Karl Bacon and Kyle Wilkes replying for the visitors.

The Dragons went out 5-4 in a game that saw both sides have a man sent off. Lewys Painter and Max Boden got Deeside’s goals as it finished 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Cefn Albion maintained their 100 per cent start to the season by knocking out St Asaph City at Ty Mawr.

Tom Smith and Jordan Williams got the goals in a 2-1 win while man of the match Sam Reynolds fired home four goals as Connah’s Quay Town thrashed Greenfield 5-1.

Matt Bennett put through his own net on a bad day for Greenfield, whose consolation goal came from Sam Edwards.

Brickfield Rangers were equally impressive, Andy Vale hitting a hat-trick as Gareth Wilson’s side hammered Henllan 7-1. Jake Barlow (2), Leroy Ngema-Stamp and Lewis Clamp also scored.

Celebrating 1-0 wins were Llangollen Town, Acton and Llandyrnog United.

Jack Hanley continued his good run in front of goal netting Llan’s winner at home to Y Glannau while Acton’s match-winner at Penyffordd Lions was Tom Edwards.

Llandyrnog won 1-0 at Caerwys while Llanuwchllyn scraped through 3-2 at Y Felinheli thanks to Meilir Williams (2) and Tomos Evans.

FC Plas Madoc returned from Saltney Town with a 4-2 victory, Josh Williams (2), Nicky Williams and Luke Bonner getting the goals with Jay Norbury and Jonathan Gorman replying.

After their home tie with Castell Alun had finished goal-less, Overton’s Harrison Plumb, Chris Bush, Blessing Osilaja and Paul Edwards all kept their nerve from the spot in a 4-1 shoot-out win.

Curtis Griffiths, Adam Lloyd and Marcus Roberts scored Coedpoeth United’s goals in a 3-0 victory at Holywell United while Gronant beat Rhyl Albion thanks to Kallum Pierce and Adam Woosey.

James Jones hit Ruabon Rovers’ consolation goal in a 4-1 exit at home to Llansannan while neighbours Rhos Aelwyd and Penycae both suffered 2-1 defeats.

Scott Reeves scored in Rhos’ 2-1 defeat at Cerrigydrudion while Penycae’s goal-getter at Kinmel Bay was Osian Williams.

Rhyl 1879 were the day’s big winners, Tom Kemp, Jon Taylor and Callum Parry all scoring twice in a 9-1 thrashing of Llysfaen.

Other Ardal League sides through to this week’s northern section draw include Llannefydd, Kerry, Bow Street, Pwllheli, Conwy Borough and Holyhead Hotspur.
