HOLYWELL TOWN are safely through to the third round, but they were made to work hard for their 3-1 triumph versus fellow Cymru North outfit Llay Welfare.

On 20 minutes, the Wellmen were ahead. Ilan ap Gareth’s corner was headed in by Danny Sullivan.

Johnny Haseldin’s side doubled their advantage eight minutes before the interval. Jamie Breese played in Dave Forbes, who supplied a low finish into the net.

It wasn’t yet game over as Samuel John and Matthew Worrall forced Ryan Woods into saves, while Bisensio Kamilo pulled one back for Llay six minutes into the second half.

However, Holywell made sure of their success on 65 minutes as Jake Roberts netted with a looping header from Danny Andrews’ cross.

Also through are Bala Town, who edged out hosts Ruthin Town 1-0.

It was a much improved showing from Dave Evans’ Ruthin side, who had opened the Cymru North season with a 7-0 thrashing versus Flint Mountain.

Tom Hughes (pictured above) grabbed the only goal for Colin Caton’s Bala four minutes from time.

On the Lakesiders’ match-winner, Caton told the club’s X site: “Great occasion for him, which is fantastic.

“His attitude, for local lads, is unbelievable and just he’s shown a great desire to stick at the training, and it’s hard and... with all the players missing and stuff, it’s so hard.

“But we’ve come here and defensively, we’ve been a rock.”
