IN-FORM Airbus were able to progress courtesy of a hard-fought 4-1 win at Gresford Athletic.

It was level until the hour-mark, however three goals in the space of 20 minutes made sure of progression for Mark Allen’s side.

Airbus applied early pressure and they forced a good save from Lewis Dutton in the 13th minute.

At the other end, a headed Gresford effort rattled the woodwork.

The Wingmakers got their noses in front in the 20th minute.

Danny Warren’s effort was saved by Dutton and Sam Baker was there to tap in the rebound.

Determined Gresford made a bright start to the second half and they drew level in the 58th minute.

Dominic Deacon managed to chip the ball over Airbus keeper Keighan Jones for the leveller.

Airbus regained the lead three minutes later following a penalty award.

The spot kick was saved by Dutton, only for George Peers to score from the rebound.

Another from Peers then put some daylight between the teams and Baker added his side’s fourth goal with 10 minutes remaining.

Airbus assistant boss Rick Chapman told the club’s X site: “I felt like we dominated the game... and I said at half-time we were comfortable in the game and that’s probably where we were at our most vulnerable at times, because the lads switch off a little bit.

“I just felt maybe they were starting to cause us a few problems (which) was of our own downfall, really.

“Our positioning behind the ball... and then the goal’s so poor, so soft.

“To concede from a straight ball is not acceptable and not good enough.

“But, then, the reaction to come back from that was excellent and then once we scored that second, there was only one team that was going to go on and win the game I felt.”
