WREXHAM boss Phil Parkinson has said the club is still working on bringing new players in, despite being quoted “astronomical” prices.
The Reds have made six signings so far this window, with Arthur Okonkwo, Callum Burton, Sebastian Revan, Dan Scarr, Lewis Brunt and George Dobson all making the move to north Wales.
Following the club’s 1-0 win over Fleetwood Town in the final pre-season game ahead of the League One season, Parkinson revealed that there is likely to be incomings and outgoings before the window closes.
He said: “The squad is getting there, we’re getting decent depth in the squad and we’re really looking forward to the season.
“We’re working on a couple of things and a couple maybe going out on loan as well so we’ve got to balance the numbers, which we’re trying to do.
“We’ve just tried to replace the players that left. Three centre halves left, we’ve bought two in with Lewis and Dan. Obviously Youngy left, we’ve brought George Dobson in, so we’re just trying to piece things together so we’ve got depth, but obviously better than what we had last season.
“So hopefully we can add a little bit more to the quality we’ve got and make sure the squad is ready to compete at this level.”
Despite back-to-back promotions, there will be expectations on Wrexham once again to compete in League One, with the Reds 5-1 to gain promotion to the Championship.
Parkinson added: “There’s expectation in every club I think, at the start of the season everyone’s got hope. No one’s ever started a season hoping to be fourth from bottom, so you always want to be at the top.
“Let’s see where we are. It’s a very competitive division, there’s more money because of the TV deal, so people have been spending. Some of the prices we’ve been quoted for players is astronomical.
“Obviously there’s strong candidates with the money certain teams are spending like Birmingham who have almost had the spending power of a low premiership club never mind a championship club. We’ll just keep concentrating on building our squad and seeing if it’s strong enough.
“I think the market has become a bit distorted because of Birmingham’s spending at the level, but we’re pleased with the lads we’ve brought in.
"We’ve had a long break and we’ve all enjoyed promotion and that feel good factor but now it’s, here we go again and let’s get ready for action.”
