A BUSY spell of action is in store for the cream of North Wales’ cricketers.

On Sunday, North Wales U19s embark on their second multi-day game of the season as they host Middlesex Schools U18s at Colwyn Bay.

Wales National County (North) seniors team have a double-header versus Northumberland seconds.

Limited overs games will take place at Menai Bridge (August 6) and Bangor (August 7).

Despite a rained off affair against Cumbria seconds early last month, Will Ryan’s men have demonstrated that they can hold their nerve when the going gets tight with a closely fought 10-run victory against the RAF. This was followed by an eight-run victory against Leeds Beckett University at Brymbo.

Nathaniel Scott, Harrison Jones, Luke Russell, Owen Davies and skipper Ryan all impressing with notable contributions.

The summer doesn’t finish there, though, with fixtures against Shropshire seconds (August 18) and Staffordshire seconds (August 25) still to come.

On a wider Wales front, Northop’s Romano Franco’s stock continues to rise after his debut for the senior Wales National County side last month against Hertfordshire in the NCCA One Day Trophy.

The 17-year-old Northop left arm spinner (pictured) was also in the XI that played in the NCCA Showcase fixture against Worcestershire last month.

Head of talent pathway for Cricket Wales Matt Dando-Thompson said: “Both north teams have had some really productive workouts this summer so far.

“The main thing that Russ Penrhyn Jones (team manager), Chris Stead (head coach) and I wanted to do was to create conditions where the lads are challenged and stretched so that their skill level can be tested. That has certainly been apparent in our fixtures thus far and we’ve really seen some pleasing individual and collective performances.

“We still have a way to go and both teams will be keen to finish their remaining fixtures on a positive note but we’re happy with the progress being made.

“It would remiss not to pay tribute to all of our fantastic clubs that have worked tirelessly to host games for us alongside our partners off the field without whom none of this would be possible.”
