WREXHAM'S young futsal heroes have been shining at national finals.
Seven young players from FC United of Wrexham, aged just 13, travelled to London to compete in the national Futsal finals, proudly representing Wales NFA Futsal against England Futsal.
These boys embarked on this incredible journey following last year's victory at the English Futsal finals, where they earned the right to don the iconic Red Dragon badge.
The match was an intense, end-to-end battle.
The Welsh side took an early lead against a formidable English team, brimming with Academy talents from top clubs like Gillingham, Arsenal, Leyton Orient and West Ham United.
However, in the second half, England fielded their older players in a bid to overpower the spirited Wrexham lads.
Despite this, the boys from Wales demonstrated remarkable resilience, finishing the game with a final score of 11-4 to England.
Proud manager Andrew Ruscoe said: "Watching the boys pull on the shirts, singing the national anthem and scoring goals against England was an incredible experience that these boys will forever cherish.
"The pride each one of them took on the trip to London has been immense.
"It has been hard work and a lot of effort behind the scenes to give the lads this opportunity.
"From national anthem singing sessions, thanks to Saith Seren's very own Christopher Evans, to tactical sessions, and the unwavering support of Robert Brassett, who has given these lads an unforgettable memory.
"We may have lost, but we did so with pride and dignity.
"We played against older lads who exuded class, yet our boys competed fiercely and proved that if you stick together, the future of Welsh Futsal is bright.
"The trip to London was pivotal for everyone involved in Futsal with us.
"We did our best not to let anyone down and to seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
The dedication and support extended beyond the pitch.
Parents of the FC United of Wrexham team ensured that their devoted coach Darren had a hotel room paid for, ensuring he didn't miss out on this occasion.
"He has given so much to community sport over the years," added Ruscoe.
"We just hope the FAW gives us the opportunity to allow these boys to live out their dreams in Futsal, because this weekend has proven we can compete if given the chance."
Thanks were also given to North East Wales FA chairman Dave Fawkes for his continued support.
"Futsal is finally starting to grow in our area," he added.
"What I will take from this magical weekend is seeing the pride and passion when those boys sang our national anthem and the fire they gave when they scored in those red shirts."
Adding to their accolades, the FC United of Wrexham lads were crowned the 2024 National Futsal English Alliance runners-up, marking a significent achievement in their young sporting careers.
