EOGHAN O’CONNELL has been full of praise for Wrexham’s two “incredible” owners.
Reds defender O’Connell, who has been a vital part of the Reds’ backline during back-to-back promotion-winning campaigns, says Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have made a big impact not just on the Wrexham club and community, but on the whole game in this country.
Asked about Deadpool star Reynolds, who watched the Red beat his hometown team Vancouver 4-1 last Saturday, O’Connell, told the Whitecaps YouTube channel: “Brilliant. He’s just a very normal person, I’d say.
“Very personable and cares a lot about all of us. Even things going on off the pitch, he’s great with.
“He gets in touch and after games, he sends messages and he’s just great.
“I think him and Rob have been incredible for not just the club and the town, but the whole league.
“They’ve kind of opened people’s eyes into what can be done when you have owners who like really care and really want to work and put into the club and they’re the same behind the scenes.
“They’re just normal people and they’re brilliant.”
Wrexham are preparing to compete in League One for the first time in almost two decades and O’Connell was the captain when the Reds defeated Vancouver Whitecaps 4-1 last weekend to complete their North American tour in positive fashion.
Phil Parkinson’s side will conclude their pre-season preparations with Saturday’s friendly at home to Fleetwood Town, prior to the visit of Wycombe Wanderers to the STōK Racecourse on August 10 to open the League One season.
Asked whether other clubs target Wrexham as a high-profile scalp, O’Connell said: “I don’t know, to be fair.
“The games are always competitive anyway and I think you can kind of get carried away with it all, that stuff.
“But for us, really, we never really think about it. I think we don’t really need added motivation going into games.
“But, obviously, it’s there with stuff like that. So, for us, we just focus the same going into every game and I think we leave that added motivation for other teams.”
