SUCCESS just continues to pour in for Wrexham athlete Thomas Williams.

Following on from his triumph at the European U18 championships in Slovakia, Wrexham AAC’s Williams took the top step of the podium at the England U17 open track and field championships in Birmingham.

An effort of 70.81-metres ensured he won the U17 men’s hammer.

Wrexham AAC can also boast a North Wales champion.

The Breakwater five-mile race at Holyhead was also the North Wales championships and it was won by Connor Rogers in a time of 26.11.

North Wales prizes went the way of second M50 Gwyn Roberts (43rd in 34.52) and second W50 Anna Moccia (94th in 42.12).

Other Wrexham racers in the field were Dave Millington (50th in 35.38), Mark Hughes (83rd in 39.43) and Karl Moore (122nd in 47.18).

Wrexham athletes have demonstrated that class is permanent at a pair of national events.

At the British masters track and field championships, in Derby, Ian Broadhurst won the M65 300m hurdles (49.07) and was runner-up in the 200m (26.97).

Over in the M75 class, a personal best of 2.38m saw Bob Frost finish as runner-up in the long jump.

Other personal bests came in the discus (16.37m) and javelin (18.16m), while he produced a season’s best of 5.99m in the shot put. In the same age group, Ian Robinson (25.65m) took third spot in the discus.

Yate played host to the Welsh masters track and field championships, where Wrexham athletes won all of the competitions they entered.

Ian Broadhurst took victories in the M65 100m (13.72), 200m (27.57) and 300m hurdles (48.77m), while there was double joy for Amanda Cook in the W45 triple jump (9.05m) and long jump (4.28m).

Adding to the success stories was Ian Robinson in the M75 discus (24.99m).

Younger club representatives were in action at the U13/U15 youth development league fixture at Eccles.

In the U13 boys’ section, Wrexham duo Tomasi Fidow and Spencer Jones won the A and B shot put and javelin, with personal bests across the board.

Fidow triumphed in both the A shot put (9.80m) and B javelin (24.32m), while success went to Jones in the A javelin (31.36m) and B shot put (7.68m).

In the same age group, personal bests made sure of a trio of podium spots for Freddie Cunningham.

He won the long jump (4.35m) and finished second in both the 150m (20.8) and high jump (1.30m).

Turning to the U15 girls’ section and Annabelle Jones triumphed in both the shot put (8.71m) and javelin (27.53m), while there were B victories for Sophie Forgrave in the shot put (7.51m) and javelin (20.31m), the latter a season’s best.

In the U15 boys’ section, Lasitha Ekanayake was third in the 100m (12.7) and a personal best of 25.4 saw him third in the 200m.

Over in the Staffs midweek open, Annabelle Jones produced a personal best of 21.11m to win the U15 girls’ discus.

A personal best of 21.11m saw Spencer Jones win the U13 boys’ discus and he was third in the long jump (4.01m).

Fifth-placed Connor Rogers (15.05) was the leading Wrexham racer at the Shrewsbury 5k road race.

He was followed by clubmates Gareth Chaloner (64th in 18.35), Richard Westwood (89th in 20.42) and Mark Hughes (103rd in 23.50).
