WHAT a huge weekend it is in the race for the Premier Division crown.

Mochdre remain the only side undefeated, but this will come under threat as they welcome second-placed Northop tomorrow. Mochdre have a 29-point buffer over their high-flying rivals, but victory for Northop will boost their hopes of taking the title.

Northop skipper Bart Ryan-Beswick said: “Tough weekend up and coming with Mochdre playing some great cricket.

“We have a strong team to face them.”

The chasing pack will be hopeful of a Northop triumph to help boost their own aims of claiming the league championship in September.

Brymbo, who sit in third position, have home advantage against fourth-placed St Asaph.

With seven games left to play, Dan Parry’s Brymbo are 32 points adrift of Mochdre, while defending champions St Asaph are a further 13 points back.

More of the same will be the message to Jason Underwood, who cracked a terrific century when Brymbo got the better of Gwersyllt Park in their last match. Connor Davies and Henry Lunn will return for Brymbo.

Reflecting on last week’s win over Gwersyllt Park, Parry said: “It was great to get the win and pick up 14 points.

“JB (Underwood) batted extremely well and was the backbone of the innings.

“It was a fantastic bowling performance from start to finish, with regular wickets being taken. Sam (Aplin) was very impressive.

“Hopefully, Saturday is another great battle between ourselves and St Asaph.”

Park are still well placed in the battle to avoid a swift return to Division One.

Iroshan de Silva’s side, who have enjoyed four victories so far this season, will be looking to make it five at home to Menai Bridge, who are in fifth position.

Gwersyllt Park, meanwhile, are in eighth spot and they are 29 points clear of the relegation zone.

Down in that bottom two are Gresford, who will host in-form Denbigh in a crucial contest tomorrow.

Matt Thompson’s side will have to be at their best against a Denbigh outfit that managed to defeat high-flying Northop last week, while an under-strength Gresford suffered a heavy loss at Menai Bridge.

Thompson said: “Thankfully, holiday season seems to be coming to a close. This week, Gaz Bell and Ryan Williams make their returns from injury.”

Wes Evans and Josh Knowles also come back in.

In the Premier Division’s remaining match, bottom-of-the-table Llandudno head west to take on Bangor.
