AIRBUS boss Mark Allen has been happy with how his side has started the season.

A 3-1 cup win over Mold Alex was followed by last week’s 7-0 thrashing of Denbigh Town for the Wingmakers, who travel to Gresford Athletic tomorrow. “Obviously, we are very happy with the performance, but the main objective was to get the three points on the board,” said Allen.

“We are very aware that it is just one game in the league and want to build upon both wins so far this season.

“It is important that we keep focused so early in the season, as we know that all players will have to be at their best for each game we play.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow, Allen added: “A positive cup run is something that we want to have this year and set ourselves those targets as a group, but we know it will be a difficult task.”

Gresford boss Eddie Maurice-Jones said: “They’re a very good team and I think they have recruited well over the summer.

“Danny Warren is one of, if not the best, strikers in the league. I put him in the same category of Jamie Breese.”

Llay Welfare have already proved they can compete in Cymru North circles.

Promoted last season via the Ardal League play-offs, Llay, with new boss Phil Hudson in charge, are unbeaten in the opening games.

They followed up a 3-1 Welsh League Cup win over Denbigh Town by picked up a point in a 1-1 derby draw at Gresford Athletic in last weekend’s Cymru North bow. It would have been three points but for Charley Edge’s leveller in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

It’s back to the cup scene tomorrow and a trip to Cymru North champions Holywell.

“They’re a brilliant team; a Cymru Premier team but for an issue with their ground,” said Llay boss Hudson.

“It won’t be easy as Holywell are a top side and will make things difficult for us and I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“We will play every game to win and always take every competition serious.”

Llay will have Matthew Worrall available, while Matt Thompson, Dave McIntyre, JJ King, Chris Hibbert and Will Nevitt are missing.

Holywell boss Johnny Haseldin said: “Llay have started really well. They’re playing with a bit of confidence they can take from both those games.

“It’s a great start for them and we will prepare for them in the right way. We will be preparing ourselves for a tough game on Saturday and we’re hoping to continue our good opening.”

Holywell will welcome Tom Bibby, Brady McGilloway and Shaun Pearson back.
