FIVE years ago Cefn Albion lifted the Welsh Trophy and boss Ian Andrews would love to do it again.

“The Welsh trophy is a competition we will hopefully go on a run in as it’s a competition we have had success in before,” said Andrews ahead of tomorrow’s home clash against St Asaph City.

“We’ve had a great start this season - two wins and two clean sheets, both with good performances.”

Cefn followed up a 4-0 Welsh Cup win at Knighton Town by winning 2-0 in the Ardal North East League at neighbours Chirk AAA on Tuesday.

“The lads put in another good shift and got their rewards.”

The big game is in Flintshire where Connah’s Quay Town will play at The Deeside Stadium for the first time.

Ahead of the clash against Greenfield, Town boss Gavin Parry said: “It’ll be nice to play our first competitive game at the Deeside Stadium against a team we know very well.

“We’ve a squad of 20 to select from and we’ll be going into that game looking for a win and hopefully another good run in the trophy.”

Town head into the game after a brilliant 4-3 Ardal North West League win at Corwen.

Sam Reynolds (2), Ben Hughes and Owen Edwards got the goals with Sam Henry (2) and Matt Gilsenan replying.

Greenfield were equally impressive in midweek as Jack Pennington and Sam Edwards scored in a 2-0 North East Wales Premier Division victory at Gronant.

“It was a good reaction after last Saturday’s awful performance,” said boss Scott Beck referring to last week’s 6-0 Welsh Cup hammering at Y Felinheli.

Owen Davies, Dylan Tyrrell, Jack Gibbons, Danny Calvert, Kei Roberts and Ben Sim are all ruled out tomorrow.

Mynydd Isa and FC Queen’s Park both won 5-0 in midweek and both have winnable ties tomorrow.

Isa head to Meliden on a high after Nathan Mendoza hit a hat-trick against Caerwys with Sam Wainwright and Shaun Tinsley also on target.

Park host Rhydymwyn on the back of thrashing Coedpoeth United where Mike Latham (pictured bottom right) came off the bench to net a hat-trick.

Tony Jones scored twice and will be looking to add to his season’s tally against a Rhyd side who have won their opening two league games.

Llangollen Town have enjoyed a great start to the season and will aim to make it three wins on the spin at home to Y Glannau.

“We played okay against Rhos,” said boss Luke Maybury after Tuesday’s 4-2 victory.

Rhos Aelwyd will aim to bounce back at Cerrigydrudion with boss Gareth Jones hoping his side show the same batting display they produced last week to knock Gwalchmai out of the Welsh Cup.

“The best thing from my perspective was the character and resilience we showed at 2-0 down to keep going right to the death,” said Jones.

Brickfield Rangers entertain Henllan on the back of a 4-2 win over Penycae.

Andy Vale, Michael Ashworth, Jay Richardson and Lewis Clamp got the goals for Rangers with Thomas Edwards and Osian Williams replying for Penycae, who make a trip to the coast to take on Kinmel Bay.

Ruabon Rovers and FC Plas Madoc played out an eight-goal derby thriller in the North East Wales’ Premier Division on Wednesday.

It finished 4-4 with Nicky Williams hitting a hat-trick for Madoc before being sent off.

Both are in action tomorrow with Rovers at home to Llansannan while Madoc go to Saltney Town, who were beaten 3-1 by Hawarden Rangers in the North East Wales League on Wednesday.

Gronant welcome Rhyl Albion, Rhuddlan Town pay a visit to Deeside Dragons and there are home comforts for Cei Connah and Caerwys against Corwen and Llandyrnog United respectively.

Coedpoeth United visit Holywell United and there are away encounters for Lex XI, Castell Alun and Acton at Rhostyllen, Overton Recreational and Penyffordd Lions respectively.
