THERE’S been a positive and negative for Flint Town United ahead of a tough start to the competitive season.

The Silkmen begin with tonight’s Welsh League Cup trip to last season’s Cymru Premier League champions The New Saints.

But it’s also been revealed that Danny Davies is set to be out for the season after suffering an ACL injury.

That’s a huge blow for Flint, with Davies, 19, joining the club from Wrexham over the summer.

However, Flint have this week announced that Isaac Lee has signed for the club on loan from Radcliffe.

The towering defender counts Manchester City, Stoke City, AFC Fylde and Ramsbottom United as his former clubs .

Flint boss Lee Fowler told the club’s website: “Isaac is a right-sided defender who gained some valuable experience last season in the Northern Premier whilst on loan to Stafford Rangers.

“We have brought him in on a six-month loan deal from Radcliffe. For someone so tall, he is very quick and good on the ball.

“He was highly recommended to us, with several EFL clubs looking at him and I’m looking forward to working with him. I’m sure he will fit in well here with us.”

Looking ahead to the competitive season, Fowler says he wants his players to be brave.

“The one thing is we won’t be found out in terms of fitness and energy,” he said.

“We could be on the end of good scorelines.

“But, the way I have decided to take the club forward, I don’t want to sit in.

“I would rather be on the front foot and show teams that healthy disrespect.”

Bala Town, fresh from competing in Europe, will begin their domestic season with a trip to Ruthin Town this evening.

There’s another all-top flight tie on Sunday where Caernarfon Town return from their Europa Conference League exploits at Newtown.

Tomorrow, Michael Wilde’s Colwyn Bay will be looking to spring a surprise at home to top flight Aberystwyth Town, while Llandudno welcome Guilsfield in an all-Cymru North tie.

Tomorrow’s other ties: Briton Ferry v Penybont; Carmarthen Tn v Haverfordwest; Merthyr Tn v Ammanford; Llantwit Major v Cardiff Met. Tonight: Goytre Utd v Caerau Ely; Cardiff City U21 v Pontypridd Utd; Trethomas v Baglan Dragons; Barry Tn v Llanelli.
