JAMES MCCLEAN says Wrexham are gradually building momentum ahead of the start of the competitive season.

The Reds have completed an unbeaten three-game tour of North America as they prepare for their first League One campaign in almost two decades.

Phil Parkinson’s side finished off the tour with a comfortable 4-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps, following on from draws with Premier League AFC Bournemouth and Chelsea, while they will host Fleetwood Town this Saturday in their final friendly.

Former Republic of Ireland international McClean told the club’s YouTube channel: “That’s the thing you want to do. You want to build sharpness.

“You want to build confidence, momentum. Obviously, what matters is the first league game of the season.

“Like I said, it’s obviously nice to round off the tour with a nice win.

“We’ve got Fleetwood next, but it’s all about taking confidence and quality and sharpness into the game that matters.”

McClean was amongst the Reds’ scorers in front of a crowd of almost 35,000 at Whitecaps’ BC Place, with Seb Revan, Elliot Lee and Jordan Davies also on target.

“That was quite enjoyable,” admitted McClean. “Obviously, fantastic facilities. They’re in season as well, so coming into the game, I thought they’d be sharper.

“But, it turned out... in the end a comfortable enough win. It’s a good end to the preparations. We’ve had three good results now.”
