GEORGE EVANS knows how tough League One is likely to be, but he says Wrexham are ready to go following a positive pre-season.

Following back-to-back promotions for the first time in the club’s history, the Reds are preparing to ply their trade in League One for the first time in almost two decades.

It all kicks-off with a home clash against Wycombe Wanderers on August 10, but before then Phil Parkinson’s side can look forward to Saturday’s friendly with League Two Fleetwood Town at the STōK Cae Ras where a decent crowd is expected to watch the Reds on home soil.

This is Wrexham’s first run out since returning from their undefeated three-match tour of North America.

“I think it’s been a great trip for us, you know,” said Evans.

“It’s been three really tough games for us. We learnt a lot defensively.

“Even against Vancouver we’ve seen the quality that they have on the ball and it’s been a great preparation trip for us and we know it’s going to be a tough season League One and we’re feeling ready.”

Evans was a key member of the Reds’ squad that secured promotion from League Two last time out.

The Manchester City Academy product made the move from Championship Millwall last September and appeared 32 times in all competitions as Wrexham followed up their National League title-winning campaign by finishing as runners-up in League Two.

Now, the focus switches to a competitive League One, which will see the Reds come up against the likes of Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic and Charlton Athletic.

“Look, we know League One’s getting tougher every year,” added Evans, who started last weekend’s comfortable 4-1 triumph against Vancouver Whitecaps.

“A lot of teams are, obviously, chasing Championship and beyond and last year, obviously, we were not expected to go up.

“But we all knew in ourselves that it was the main goal and, obviously, it’s not going to stop here as well.

“There’s a lot of other teams now who are going to try and do the same thing.

“But, we back ourselves all day.

“We’ve got a fantastic squad, fantastic manager, great staff and as a club as a whole, it will have gone in the right direction.”

In front of a crowd of almost 35,000 at BC Place, goals from Seb Revan, James McClean, Elliot Lee and Jordan Davies saw Wrexham through to a comfortable victory over Vancouver in their last match.
