PHIL PARKINSON was blown away by the reception Wrexham received during their trip to Vancouver.

The Reds, preparing for a first season in League One in almost two decades, concluded their North American tour on Saturday with a 4-1 win over MSL side Vancouver Whitecaps.

This completed an unbeaten Wrex Coast Tour for Parkinson’s side and the Reds’ boss loved his time in co-owner Ryan Reynolds’ home city.

He said: “It’s fantastic. I mean, driving to the stadium and being around the city... there’s loads of red and white and it was just amazing to see and we got an incredible reception when we arrived at the stadium.

“Yeah, it meant a lot, it really did and I said to the lads it’s really important that we put in a display to show all the people who’ve paid hard-earned cash today what we’re all about as a team and the last game of a tour sometimes can be a tough one, because we had the high of the Chelsea game and I was conscious of the fact that we had a responsibility to put on a performance in front of the fantastic support we had.”

Goals from Seb Revan, James McClean, Elliot Lee and Jordan Davies saw Wrexham through to a comfortable victory.

“A fantastic atmosphere, great stadium,” said Parkinson, who has led Wrexham to back-to-back promotions for the first time in the club’s history.

“The lads have revelled in it... and it was always going to be a good test because, obviously, Vancouver Whitecaps are in the middle of their season, so they’re fit.

“They’re right up to speed in match fitness and we’ve still got a little way to go. So, all-in-all, we’re pleased with the day’s work.”
