MARC WILLIAMS is still on a high from slamming home the winning penalty in Caernarfon Town’s win over Crusaders.

Former Wrexham and Chester striker Williams kept his cool to convert the 15th penalty of a dramatic shoot-out victory in last week’s Europa Conference League first round qualifier in Belfast.

“It was a brilliant moment for me, the team and the club,” said Williams (pictured below) en-route to Poland for tonight’s second round qualifier at Legia Warsaw.

“Scoring in the play-off win, being named fans player of the season last year and then scoring the winning penalty is something I’ll always look back on when I do eventually hang up my boots.”

Williams, now 35, is still enjoying his football as much as he did when he first burst onto the scene at Wrexham 19 years ago.

“I’m still enjoying my football and days like those in Crusaders last week keep you going.”

Welsh champions The New Saints were thrashed 5-0 by Ferencvaros in the first leg of their Champions League second qualifying round tie in Budapest on Tuesday.

Mali international Adama Traore claimed a hat-trick in the Groupama Arena as the Hungarian champions took firm command ahead of next week’s return encounter.

Kristoffer Zachariassen and Marquinhos, with a penalty, were also on target as Craig Harrison’s team – who hit the bar through Jordan Williams – suffered a defeat that is likely to mean them dropping into the Europa League qualifiers.

“I’d be lying if I wasn’t disappointed but one thing I’m not disappointed with is the attitude and the application that the players gave,” TNS boss Craig Harrison told BBC Radio Shropshire.

“There was never any doubt that anyone was going to throw the towel in. We stuck together right until the end.

“They are a very good team but I’m proud of our players and the way that they handled themselves, their professionalism and attitude and work ethic.”
