WREXHAM women will be aiming to end their American tour on a high this weekend.

The Wrex Coast Tour draws to a close tomorrow (3pm) as Steve Dale's Reds come up against Portland Thorns Academy at Providence Park, Portland, Oregon.

Wrexham's women have received the red carpet treatment for the tour and ahead of the first match, midfielder Lili Jones told Gold Derby: "I've been a few times. I've been to LA before, but this is something else.

"Like, walking the red carpet, being here with all my best mates and my family, it's great."

A first goal on American soil was the reward as Wrexham women provided an improved display in their second match on tour.

Dale's Reds had opened their Wrex Coast Tour schedule with a 9-0 defeat at the hands of SoCal FC, however, they had to pick themselves up for the meeting with Tigres Femenil U19s just 48 hours later.

Carra Jones netted in the second half as Wrexham lost out 6-1 on this occasion, but there was an improved showing from the Reds.

As with the first match, action took place at the UCLA Drake Stadium, in Los Angeles.

Reflecting on when the tour was announced, Jones added: "Honestly, when we found out, we were all just a bit stunned.

"I don't think we actually believed that it was going to happen."

As far as Jones, last season's Adran Premier young player of the season, is concerned, the best has been left until last.

Focusing on the meeting with Portland Thorns Academy, she said: "I'm excited for the Portland game.

"To play at Providence Park, such an iconic stadium, we're dead excited."
