FRIDAY night football is going to be the norm for Flint Mountain this season.
Boss Aden Shannon revealed that 18 of his side’s games would be on Fridays instead of the traditional Saturday afternoon kick off.
“Friday nights suit us although I don’t know what I’m going to do on Saturdays now,” said Shannon, whose first experience of Friday night football wasn’t a pleasant one last week as they were knocked out of the Welsh League Cup in a 3-0 home defeat to Gresford Athletic.
“The scoreline flattered them if I am honest and we had some big decisions go against us,” added Shannon, whose Flint Mountain side kicks off their Cymru North campaign at home to Ruthin Town this evening.
“Credit to Gresford. They stuck to their game plan. There’s going to be no easy game as everyone is capable of beating everyone in this league.
“This season will be tough but one thing I can say is these boys will grow in confidence
“We have lost some big characters this year but it’s up to me to replace them. but after speaking to the club we need to bring in youth who will take the club forward.
“We are light at the moment but having Joe Holt back this week is a huge boost.”
Mold boss Barry Owen says a few of the players have a point to prove as Alex open their campaign at home to Llandudno tomorrow.
“It doesn’t get any easier,” said Owen, whose Mold side was pipped 3-2 at Airbus in the opening round of the Welsh League Cup.
“We have got Llandudno, who will be full of confidence after beating Newport.
“We always take it game-by-game. We set our own targets in-house,
“We are organised, we’re fit and we have got players that have got a point to prove.”
Owen says the club will assess a few injuries ahead of the game before making a decision on the squad.
Mark Allen is looking for supporters to play their part to make sure it’s a winning start to the campaign for Airbus.
The Wingmakers finished up third in the league last season, but tonight’s visitors Denbigh Town were one of just two sides who managed to defeat Airbus.
Manager Allen (pictured right) told the club’s X site: “Obviously, the crowd helps and creates that atmosphere that we want.
“We know Denbigh from last year. We had some challenging games against them, one defeat and one win. So, we’ll expect a tough game again.”
